About Hilary

At present, Hilary is working almost exclusively in monotype but enjoys the creative interplay between painting and printmaking. Dynamic colour and vigorous brushwork in the paintings, mainly in oils, is matched by a similar approach to original prints. Images are usually abstract, or liberated from reality to reflect a particular mood. Influence of the South Devon sea and the warmth of the home environment are often felt, and a recent residency aboard an Antarctic expedition ship provided a powerful new stimulus.

After work in higher education, TV research and the world of wildlife cruising, the first-love of painting has become the major workforce – spurred on by exhibitions and the company of artists.

Exhibitions

Hilary is currently working towards a two man show – her work, together with that of Mike Glanville – at the Bowie Gallery, Totnes in February 2010, and group shows with the Press Gang Printmakers: Summer 22 June–4 July 2010 and Autumn 18–25 September 2010, both at Harbour House Gallery, Kingsbridge.

As a member of Plymouth Society of Artists, Pressgang Printmakers and at Salcombe Art Club, Hilary is a keen supporter of art in her home region as well as further afield. Recent exhibitions include The Theatre Royal, Plymouth; Flavel Centre, Dartmouth; Delamore Gallery, Cornwood, as well as numerous shows developed by artspaces including London Affordable Art Fair.
